Brent's Spectacular Planetarium Visit
I found the planetarium tour very interesting for a few different reasons. First off the fact that Eise Eisinga actually built that in the main area of his house. Thats definitely not something you see everyday. Another thing that impressed me about the planetarium was how he was able to keep everything scaled properly and be able to accurately display the known planets positions, as well as their moons. As if that wasn't enough having a calendar built into the entire thing that keeps track of day, month, year, moonphases, etc just makes the whole room that much more impressive.

And his impressive collection of sextants. That it's gravity powered and also that it was his hobby for 7 years to try to finish which is the time his wife allotted him.
ReplyDeleteI was impressed on how accurate a machine that was built that long ago as well as one that was created on such a deadline, plus the work and the technology he had available to him at the time.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't even begin to imagine the amount of math that went into trying to have all of that machine work correctly. He must have planned the whole thing out ahead of time for it all to have fit together so nicely which makes it even more impressive.
ReplyDeleteI also thought it was interesting that he build it in his living room. It would have been a hassle to be living in that little crook of a bed while the house was under construction like that.
