One of the things that I learned on Wednesday at the museum was that they placed organs/fetuses in jars. I had no idea that it was common practice to place organs in jars for preservation, although that makes sense. I also did not know that they injected wax into these organs to preserve them.
I strongly disliked that part of the tour. It was well explained and it was interesting but actually seeing them grossed me out a lot.

ReplyDeleteI have always wondered how they made these look so real, I had no idea they injected wax.
ReplyDeleteThe greying of the organic material intrigued me while the idea of putting body parts in jars kinda grossed me out. The colored wax was a clever solution to that discoloring problem.

ReplyDeleteI thought that the wax that they used was a pretty cool idea actually considering that they specifically used red wax to provide a "lifelike" visual since the preserving liquid tended to turn the object uniformly gray
I also didn't know that they saved parts from dissections and preserved them for future studies. It was weird to see that with only a jar of alcohol they could preserve something for that long and keep all the fine details intact to see today. I didn't think it would've lasted that long and it was a little disturbing to see.
