Delft Factory - Marissa

This is Marissa:

I really enjoyed the trip to the delft factory. I knew that they produced porcelain products and that blue and white was very common but I wasn't sure if that was all they produced. Apparently they had used other colors but no longer produce anything but blue and white. I really thought the label the master painters put on each piece to verify that the product is authentic was really neat as well. The fact that the master painters undergo about ten years of training though was quite amazing. Watching the master painter work though showed their talent and was quite amazing to see how easy it seemed for her to make the design but how difficult it must be to personally mix the blue to make the correct shade.

  1. I also thought it was cool to see how quickly and accurately the artist was able to paint, especially while holding the object up with her off hand.

  2. Its easy to work quickly when you are animatronic.

But in all seriousness, I was wondering too how they managed to have so much control over their brush strokes while making sure never to smudge any of the rest of the piece.

  3. This was so impressive to me as well! It was also very cool how they used the plaster mold to suck out the moisture in just the right amount to make the hollow pieces. Overall this tour was very cool and educational. (their interactive movie room was super cool as well!!)

  4. From what I noticed while she was painting and from the unglazed examples we were shown it seemed as though the blue paint would dry up quickly resulting in a low spear rate. I personally also liked the fact that they have specific pieces for displaying tulips.
