Hey guys, I really enjoyed the greenhouse portion of the Utrecht University Museum. I especially liked the firn tree. The fact that you can see them in the fossil record was fastinating. I also liked that they had a complety seperate garden for pharmaceutical plants.
I also found this interesting to learn how they renovated the whole area and seeing the before and after pictures.
ReplyDeleteVery cool that they had a seperate pharmaceutical plant area. I wonder when & why they closed off the doorway?
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the fern tree. There are some ferns near home for me but I never really realized that they were able to grow into trees.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the greenhouse portion as well and that that the ability to discern between the "living fossil" fern tree and a palm was pretty neat. I have seen fern spores before so when the guide pointed that out I thought that was cool. Plus, the portion about the giant lily pads was neat too. The fact that they get so large, that the seeds for this year did not do well, and that families can have their young baby photographed on them was pretty cool.
I agree that this was very cool. It was interesting to see the fern tree (which I didn't know existed) and the interesting exotic plants. It was also cool to learn about the early orange houses as the precursor to green houses.
